Mahomes had long considered a new look but refrained due to superstition during the Chiefs’ consecutive Super Bowl victories. However, following the team’s 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl, Mahomes felt it was the right time for a change .
His longtime barber, DeJuan Bonds, who has been styling Mahomes’ hair since 2017, played a pivotal role in the transformation. Bonds noted that Mahomes had previously expressed interest in a shorter haircut, especially during significant life events like the birth of his first child. Despite initial hesitation due to superstition, they decided to proceed with the change after the Super Bowl loss .
