Fans have paid tribute to a former BBC athletics commentator who has sadly died at the age of 74, with one calling the broadcasting legend “very supportive” and “great company”

Fans have paid tribute to a former BBC athletics commentator following their tragic death. Sports commentator Paul Dickenson, who commentated on every Summer and Winter Olympic Games between 1992 and 2014, has died aged 74, the BBC announced on Wednesday, 27 November.

Paul, who spent more than two decades specialising in athletics and winter sports commentary, died at home on Tuesday. Paying tribute to Paul, one fan wrote: “Really sad to read that Paul Dickenson has died. One of my favourite commentators of all time, his voice is very much missed.” Another added: “just seen the very sad news that Paul Dickenson has passed away.”

Meanwhile, a third wrote: “Having grown up listening to him, it took me a while to pluck up the courage to talk to him when I was first starting out but, once I did, he was always very supportive and just great company.”
