VIDEO: Tom Brady Breaks His Silence On Netflix Roast That ‘Affected’ His Children
The Netflix original series Roast of Tom Brady fulfilled its promise of skewering one of the greatest athletes of all time. The celebrities on the dais pulled no punches, as anyone who watched the highlights of Brady’s roast would attest. And the ex-football player himself appeared to be handling everything with ease. The negative aspects of the roast, though, really got to Brady’s family.
No subject, including his children, ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan and ex-wife Gisele Bündchen, seemed to be off limits.
We now know how his family has responded to the endless jokes made fun of them. An insider told People magazine that two of his children, whom he shares with Bündchen, have reportedly been “affected” by the program.
Bündchen’s lover Joaquim Valente, her jiujitsu instructor, was also the target of several jokes.
During his conversation with the crew on The Pivot podcast, Tom Brady revealed that while jokes about him didn’t hurt him, jokes that touched his children did.
“I loved when the jokes were about me, but I didn’t like how it affected my kids,” said Brady.
“So it’s the hardest part about it, the bitter-sweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way it affected, actually, the people who I care about the most in the world.”
During the roast, comedian Nikki Glaser had the most brutal moment when she cracked a joke about Brady leaving Moynahan, eliciting the crowd’s reaction.
“You’re the best to ever play… for too long,” she told Brady. “I mean, you retired, then you came back, and then you retired again. I mean, I get it; it’s hard to walk away from something that’s not your pregnant girlfriend. It’s tough… To be fair, he didn’t know she was pregnant, he just thought she was getting fat.”
Reposting a statement on her Instagram, Moynahan appeared to respond to the criticism. “Loyal people take s— more personal because they never would’ve did that s— to you,” the message stated. She captioned it with just the words, “So true.”
